Cancer Panel – Saliva Test

From our Private GP Practice, we offer a saliva test for genetic testing for cancer risk. A relatively simple 10-minute saliva-based DNA test can also identify variations on genes that identify men who are at the highest risk of developing prostate cancer. This test also covers genes known to increase the risk of the following types of cancers; breast, ovarian, uterine, colorectal, melanoma, stomach, pancreatic and prostate.
We analyse 30 genes associated with common hereditary cancers: breast, colorectal, melanoma, pancreatic, prostate*, ovarian, stomach and uterine.

Why get genetic testing for cancer?

Personalised screening and prevention

10-15% of most cancers are due to inherited genetic mutations. Knowing you have a mutation that increases your risk allows you and your healthcare provider to create a personalised plan designed to prevent or detect conditions like breast cancer, ovarian, colorectal and pancreatic cancers at an earlier or more treatable stage.

Relatives may benefit too

Knowing you have a genetic mutation may be important information to share with your relatives. For example, if a man carries a mutation in BRCA1, each of his children has a 50% chance of carrying the same mutation.

Personalised test results

• Clear results about the presence or absence of any mutations that increase your risk for developing cancer.
• Personalised cancer risk information to discuss with your healthcare provider.
• Cancer screening guidelines published by experts.
• Info on how your results might impact your family.

A few weeks ago, I was suddenly taken ill with a chest complaint while in an hotel in Glasgow. A doctor was summoned and very quickly arrived. The delightful Dr Sheila O’Neill treated me very well and thoroughly professionally. I couldn’t have wished for better treatment

I had to attend a medical examination with Dr O’Neill and I would like to thank her for her patient demeanour, thoroughness and most of all, for making the experience as comfortable and relaxing as any medical can be. Top Doc.

Just wanted to say thank you for today … you made that very easy and dad was so happy afterwards. Left him at the station with a skip in his step, not the normal tears and upset with normal surgery. We couldn’t have hoped for a better outcome. Thank you very much.

“Thank you for making an otherwise rotten time very pleasant and I appreciate how welcome and relaxed I was made to feel today.”

Ms B, Glasgow

I have used GMR on 3 occasions, 2 because I was worried about my health and once for a routine medical. On the 2 occasions I was concerned I was seen within hours on the same day, having determined that I should see a consultant the doctor called my insurance provider whilst I sat in front of her and made the necessary noises to make sure I would see the right consultant. On both occasions, she knew the consultants personally and persuaded them to see me right away, on the first occasion that night and on the second first thing the next day.
