From our Private GP Practice, we offer a saliva test for genetic testing for cancer risk. A relatively simple 10-minute saliva-based DNA test can also identify variations on genes that identify men who are at the highest risk of developing prostate cancer. This test also covers genes known to increase the risk of the following types of cancers; breast, ovarian, uterine, colorectal, melanoma, stomach, pancreatic and prostate.
We analyse 30 genes associated with common hereditary cancers: breast, colorectal, melanoma, pancreatic, prostate*, ovarian, stomach and uterine.
Why get genetic testing for cancer?
Personalised screening and prevention
10-15% of most cancers are due to inherited genetic mutations. Knowing you have a mutation that increases your risk allows you and your healthcare provider to create a personalised plan designed to prevent or detect conditions like breast cancer, ovarian, colorectal and pancreatic cancers at an earlier or more treatable stage.
Relatives may benefit too
Knowing you have a genetic mutation may be important information to share with your relatives. For example, if a man carries a mutation in BRCA1, each of his children has a 50% chance of carrying the same mutation.
Personalised test results
• Clear results about the presence or absence of any mutations that increase your risk for developing cancer.
• Personalised cancer risk information to discuss with your healthcare provider.
• Cancer screening guidelines published by experts.
• Info on how your results might impact your family.
