Cervical Smear
Cervical Smear Test
The aim of a Cervical Smear Test (also known as cervical screening) is to prevent cervical cancer from developing. The cervical smear, also known as Papanicolaou or Pap smear, is the process of detecting abnormal potentially pre-cancerous cells and cancerous processes in the cervix, in order to prevent cervical cancer. During the screening appointment, a small sample of cells will be taken from your cervix. The cervix is the opening to your womb from your vagina.
Private Smear Tests take less than 30 minutes. You should receive the result of your cervical smear test within 2–3 weeks.
If you have any concerns about any symptoms such as vaginal discharge or pain, bleeding between periods or after sex, contact us on 0141 225 0140.
